About Me

One of my earliest memories is of colouring in a sea lion and being praised for keeping all the colour within the lines, I would have been three years old, at playschool in Germany where my soldier father was defending us from the Soviet hordes in his capacity as a bandmaster in a light infantry battalion.

I’ve been continually producing art ever since, and am compelled to do so.

What do I like? Energy. Energy suppressed, energy released. The coiled spring, the crashing wave, the storm. We’ve all got that thing that floats our boat, for me it’s getting that energy into something static and two dimensional like a painting, and having it there. To capture the essential aspect of something, its function, the DNA of it. This is something that is worth trying for.

Kev McTomney was born in Hampshire, and very soon after that he began to travel, finally coming to a halt in mid-Wales in 2007. Living in the UK, Germany, Oman, Indonesia and the USA, and having spent nearly a year in India and Nepal, Kev is keenly aware of the importance of both gun control and good plumbing.

Kev attended the Savannah College of Art & Design, and gained an MA in Modern History from the University of St. Andrews. He has been part of an artist’s cooperative in Bradford on Avon.
